How much does a stair railing cost in Calgary?

A stair railing in Calgary is priced on your stairs, so I do not publish prices. Send a few photos and you get a free rough estimate, usually the same working day, before any visit. The answers below cover estimates, timing and which homes I take on.

Cost

Every railing is quoted on its own, so I do not publish prices. The length of the run, the posts and turns, the material and finish, and how easy the stairs are to reach all move the number. Text photosText photos and I will send a rough estimate before I visit.

No. The rough estimate comes from your photos and measurements, with no visit, so you know the likely range before anyone comes out. After the site visit I write the formal quote, which confirms the exact price.

Process

Text photosText photos with rough measurements, call me, or fill in the form. I look them over and reply the same working day. The estimate costs nothing.

I reply the same working day, and most rough estimates go out that day. Glass, custom railings and anything that needs pricing from a supplier can take a few days, sometimes up to a week for complex work. When yours will take longer, I tell you when to expect it.

No. Most railings, and most of my other work, are built in your home. I cut, machine and fit each piece on site from individual parts and raw lumber, so it fits your house exactly. That takes longer than installing pre-made pieces and needs a clear working area, so we plan both at the site visit.

There is no showroom. I work in your home, so the styles and parts guide shows the choices, and we settle yours together at the site visit.

For a railing, send a wide photo of the whole staircase, close-ups of the existing railing and its posts, and rough lengths if you have a tape measure handy. For trim, text a phototext a photo of each room and a count of the doors and windows.

I check the measurements in person and go through style, material and finish with you. You get a formal quote after the visit.

A deposit is due when you sign the quote. I order your materials after that and book the job.

An average job is usually 2 to 3 weeks from first photos to finished install. Your quote confirms the dates once the style and materials are chosen.

I do. If I am working and cannot pick up, leave a message or text (403) 813-3039 and I will get back to you. My hours are Mon to Thu, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and I answer calls on Saturdays.

Yes, and it is often the quickest way. Text them to (403) 813-3039 with a rough idea of the lengths. On a computer, email them to info@rivermeadow.ca instead.

Fit

The smallest job I take on is about one day of work. If yours is smaller than that, send a message and we can talk it through.

No. I work on single detached houses only. If you are not sure whether your home qualifies, send a message and I will tell you straight away.

No. My railing work is for the inside of the home: stairs, landings and open sides.

Calgary, plus Okotoks, Airdrie, Chestermere and Langdon, which is about 30 minutes from the city edge. If you are not sure you are in range, send your postal code and ask.

About the work

Yes to both. River Meadow Woodwork is a licensed business, and the work is WCB covered.

Yes. I quote, build and install every job myself, with no rotating installers. The person you meet at the site visit is the person who does the work.

Tell me what you like, or text photostext photos of a railing or trim you have seen elsewhere. I will explain how it would be built and what it changes in the quote.
