Custom built-ins and furniture in Calgary

I plan and build custom built-ins in Calgary homes, along with furniture made for the room it goes in. My joinery and furniture training goes into every piece.

Shelving, cabinets and furniture

Off-the-shelf rarely fits

The wall is an odd width. The alcove is too small for anything you can buy. The shelves you have sag, or do not look like they belong in the room.

A built-in is made around your room instead of the other way round. It uses the space properly and looks like part of the house.

What I build

What I build

Built-ins follow the same path as my railings: quoted from photos first, then built and installed by me.

  • Built-in shelving

Floor-to-ceiling or low and wide, sized to the wall it lives on.

  • Built-in cabinetry

Cabinets and storage fitted into alcoves and along walls.

  • Custom wood furniture

Display cabinets, shelving units, stools and other pieces made to order.

Built-ins and furniture are for single detached houses in my service area, and every piece is custom quoted.

Your choices

Matching the rest of your home

A built-in should look like it was always part of the house.

  • Trim to match

I can build a built-in to the same trim profile as the rest of the room.

  • Railings to match

A staircase railing and a nearby built-in can share the same wood and finish.

  • One maker

The person who measures your wall is the person who builds the unit.

How it works

How a built-in job runs

  1. Step 1: Free rough estimate

Text photosText photos of the wall or room, a few rough measurements, and any pictures that show what you like. A rough estimate usually comes back to you the same working day. Custom pieces can take a few days to price.

  2. Step 2: Site visit and formal quote

I measure the space and we agree the layout, doors and finish. Then the formal quote arrives.

  3. Step 3: Quote signed, job booked

After you sign and pay the deposit, I order the materials and schedule the build.

  4. Step 4: Install

I build the piece, install it in your home, and clean up before I leave. Expect about 2 to 3 weeks from first photos to install, depending on the piece.

Tidy rooms

Built-ins go into rooms you live in every day, so tidy work matters. With one person on the job, there is one person to ask about how your room is left.

Cost

What affects the cost

Built-ins run from a single shelf unit to a wall of cabinetry, so the quote is built from your project.

  • Size and number of units
  • Doors, drawers and other hardware
  • Wood and finish
  • How awkward the wall or alcove is
  • Access for installation

A rough estimate tells you early whether the project fits your budget.

FAQ

Built-in and furniture questions

Yes. I build both, and a piece of furniture can be made to match a built-in or a railing in the same home.

Photos of the wall, a few rough measurements and any pictures that show the look you like. A quick sketch helps if you have one.

That is the point of a built-in. Photos of the wall are enough to start, and I check every dimension at the site visit.
