Trim Work
Door, window and baseboard trim
I build and install stair railings in Calgary homes, replacing loose, outdated or missing ones with a custom railing that suits the house. I quote it, make it and fit it myself.

Custom interior railings
Maybe it wobbles when you lean on it. Maybe a stair or an open side has no railing at all. Maybe it is simply dated, and you have stopped liking your own stairwell.
A railing is a safety feature first and a style feature second. If yours is loose, do not wait on it.
Before
AfterEvery railing is made for the staircase it goes on, in new construction and renovations, in Calgary, Okotoks, Airdrie, Chestermere and Langdon.
I take out a loose or outdated railing and fit a new one to the stairs you already have.
For a new house or an addition, I fit the railing to the finished stairs.
A handrail on wall brackets for stairs that run along a wall.
Newel posts, spindles and caps chosen to suit the rail and the house.
My railings go inside single detached houses. Deck and exterior railings are not part of what I do.
I supply and install all three. Which one suits you depends on the house and how you want the stairwell to feel.

Warm and familiar, and it can be shaped to match your trim and doors.

Slimmer lines and a more modern look, with spindles that run vertical or horizontal. Vertical spindles sit in clean mortises in the wood, with no screws showing.

Keeps the view open and lets light through the stairwell.

Not sure which option suits your home?
Send photos of the stairs and I will suggest what fits, free.
Text photosText photos of the staircase, the old railing and any open sides, plus rough lengths. Most rough estimates come back the same working day. Glass and other custom railings can take a few days, because some parts are priced by my suppliers.
I measure the stairs on site, we settle the style and finish, and the formal quote follows.
Sign the quote and pay the deposit, and I order your railing materials and put you on the schedule.
I install the railing myself and finish with a clean-up. A railing job usually takes 2 to 3 weeks from your first photos to the finished install, and your quote confirms the dates.
Stairs are how everyone in the house gets around, so a railing job should not leave you with a mess. Here is what customers wrote about how their homes were left.
I cut, machine and fit each piece on your stairs from individual parts and raw lumber, so the railing fits exactly. It takes longer than fitting pre-made sections and needs a clear working area, which we plan together at the site visit.

Tell me about your railing and send photos of the stairs.

Prices are not published because no two staircases match. These are the things that move the number.
I can judge most of these from your photos.

Want a rough estimate for your railing?
Photos of the stairs are enough for a first number, free and before any visit.
Often, yes. The new railing attaches to the stairs you already have, and I check how from your photos and again at the site visit.
A wide shot of the whole staircase, a close-up of the current railing and its posts, and any open sides. A tape measure in the frame helps.
All three. Wood, metal and glass are all part of what I supply and install.
No. I cut each mortise at the exact angle of your stairs with a custom jig a machinist designed and built for me, so every spindle sits tight and even.
No. Every wood part goes in unfinished and is stained or painted after the install. Pre-finished parts would still need the plugs over the screws and the cut ends touched up once fitted, which never looks as good as finishing the whole railing at once. If you would rather not do it yourself, I work with a painter who can finish it, including with water-based products.
Soon. Until it is sorted, keep weight off it and text me photostext me photos, and I will tell you whether it needs replacing.
